Maddie has been selected for the Paralympics!

Hyperscale Group are proud to continue their sponsorship of Maddie Down and congratulate her on being selected for Team GB in the 2024 Paralympics in Paris.

Maddie will be racing in the T38 100m heats on Saturday 31st August at 10:08am (UK) on Channel 4 TV and the Paralympics YouTube channel. The final is in the evening session at approximately 7:30pm (UK). She’ll compete again on Thursday 5th September in the morning session in the T38 Long Jump final. The session begins at 10am (UK). Timings may be subject to change so check the timetable on the Paris 24 Paralympics website.

A message from Maddie:

I trained hard over the winter months concentrating on my sprinting speed and acceleration, as these are essential for both 100m and long jump. My indoor season went well, with me achieving a new PB of 8.24 seconds over 60m.

Over the Easter holidays I trained hard in Majorca for 10 days, although the beginning of the outdoor season coincided with the start of my GCSEs. It was a pretty stressful few weeks! Once my exams finished I had about 5 weeks to recover physically and qualify for the Paralympics. I had trained throughout my exams, so I knew my technique was good - I just needed some energy to go with it!

Thankfully at the end of June I began to gain momentum and improved at each competition. I came second in the UK Championships in Manchester behind Sophie Hahn. On the final weekend before selection I ran at the London Meet at the Olympic Stadium and achieved a new PB - finally under 13 secs - 12.97! I was delighted! The following day at the Senior Para English Championships I gained a season's best in Long Jump of 4.75cm. These results were enough for me to be selected for my next challenge - representing GB in the Paralympics. I will be competing in the T38 100m on 31st August and T38 Long jump on 5th September.
