Tanzania Update: Hyperscale Group Supports the Joshua Foundation
In August our Director of Operations Suzanne had another opportunity to visit The Joshua School, Arusha who we try to support.
During 2018 we raised/donated around Us$15,000 for the school, supported by a generous donation from Fulcrum GT. We also sponsor 5 children at the school. The donation has provided around 30 computers for the school, which can now be found in the newly decorated computer lab. Lessons in various subjects will be held in here, and IT will become a daily and vital part of the students’ education. To date the school has had no PCs for student use, so this is going to make a huge difference to the quality of education delivered by the school, in particular in the wide range of teaching and learning methods that can be utilised, in the development of English language skills, and in access to research and other materials via the web.
During Suzanne’s trip she got to spend time in the classroom with some of the primary age children, acting as a Teaching Assistant. At first this was a little out of her comfort zone but the childrens’ enthusiasm and keenness to learn was evident. They particularly seemed to enjoy doing some drama and outdoor learning.
The Joshua graduates will now be equipped with vital IT skills and an exposure to a world outside Tanzania which other local schools cannot provide. They will be at an advantage vis a vis other graduates and better equipped for the workplace.
We are thrilled that we have been able to be a part of this initiative and look forward to hearing how the use of IT is enhancing the student experience. A huge thank you to everyone who has donated and have helped to make this happen.
Our plans for the next 12 months are currently under discussion with the Joshua Foundation - if you want to be involved or provide support please email suzannesouthall@hyperscalegroup.com
